Independence Day Celebration
2 pm to 4 pm
The Dakota Discovery Museum will be the site of good fun and music during their Independence Day Celebration on July 4 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Guests will enjoy a flavorful ice cream social while listening to the unique sounds of Michael Whisler. Whisler, a young self-taught acoustic fingerstyle guitarist and songwriter will be performing during the afternoon. He composes for both 12 and 6 string guitars with dynamic power and speed while drawing from American folk, blues and classical music. His tunes range from ripping fast paced instrumentals to slower more emotional ballads and even dissonant free time melodies. He also blends a unique bottleneck tone to some of his compositions which utilize alternate tunings. Although Michael is mainly a solo guitarist he does throw in his low warm vocals to some of the tunes.
Young and old alike can enjoy the experience of making ice cream with old-fashioned hand crank freezers as well as other fun activities.
So bring your family, set up your lawn chairs or spread out your quilt and relax on the Fourth while you savor the flavor of a unique celebration! The entertainment is free to the public and is sponsored by Jack's Sinclair, J-Mart Sinclair and All-Star Sinclair stations. Donations are welcomed.
The event will be held at the Dakota Discovery Museum on the Dakota Wesleyan University campus, 1300 McGovern Ave. Mitchell, SD. For more information call 605-996-2122 or email us at info@dakotadiscovery.com
