Independence Day Celebration

July 4, 2010
Independence Day Celebration
2 pm to 4 pm

The Dakota Discovery Museum will be the site of good fun and music during their Independence Day Celebration on July 4 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Guests will enjoy a flavorful ice cream social while listening to the music of Jim Groth. Jim has been playing guitar since the early 1960s. He sang and played with the regional rhythm and blues band The Pilgrims, in addition to the Starfires, DJ and the Runaways, Bobby Vee and Wonderband. Along with R&B and rock, Groth played bluegrass and folk, and went on to write gospel and folk music. Since breaking into performing during high school, Groth has continued to sing and play electric and acoustic guitar in the studio and on stage.

Jim GrothToday, he performs as a solo act, with the blues band The Stallions and with the Celtic ensemble Trefoil, in addition to producing recordings in his home studio. A born storyteller, Groth relates his life experiences in his original songs. His versatility in style and expression, as well as his command of so many musical traditions, make him hard to categorize. An accomplished vocalist as well as a guitar and mandolin master, Groth blends original tunes with obscure, but recognizable interpretations. Young and old alike can enjoy the experience of making ice cream with old-fashioned hand crank freezers as well as other fun activities.

So bring your family, set up your lawn chairs or spread out your quilt and relax on the Fourth while you savor the flavor of a unique celebration! The entertainment is free to the public! Donations are welcome.

The event will be held at the Dakota Discovery Museum on the Dakota Wesleyan University campus, 1300 McGovern Ave. Mitchell, SD. For more information call 605-996-2122 or email us at info@dakotadiscovery.com
